The fall is my favorite time of year. The weather has cooled off, the days are getting shorter, and it’s a fantastic time to curl up with hot tea and some knitting. It’s also a fantastic time for sheep and wool festivals! This year I was trilled to participate in the Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival as well as the Portland Lace Society’s Lace Day.
Now that the rush to get prepared for shows has passed, I’ve got a whole bunch of new prints hitting the website. These cute little bears are just one of several prints which I am sure you will all love.
While I am working on some new patterns and product development ideas, I am retiring the crochet case. These cases are great for all kinds of things other than crochet hooks. I use one for makeup brushes and another for pens and pencils. Check out the new clearance section for some great deals on these cases as well as old prints. Don’t forget that domestic orders all ship for free on the web!
Those of you who follow my Etsy shop will notice that prices have gone up a bit. This is in response to Etsy’s increased fees and rising materials costs. I will keep prices on follyandnonsense.com at the old levels until the first of the year, so be sure to shop there first as you look for holiday gift ideas!
It may have been quiet here on the website for the last year but a lot has been going on! We’ve relocated back home to California, and finally gotten settled into a new home and work space. There’s not quite as much space in the studio area but we’re adjusting and getting back into production just in time for a few spring fiber shows (more on the exact dates and locations soon!).
The most exciting change is that I am now doing design work for Freia Fibers! A good portion of my new patterns will be done using these beautiful ombre and gradient yarns. I am particularly fond of working with the new shawl balls, a luscious 100% US-merino wool single ply fingering weight yarn in 100 gram put-ups. The yarn is super soft, comes in a broad range of rich, fun colors and has a lovely drape once knit up. It takes blocking beautifully making it ideal for lace patterns and all-year wraps.
Freia Fibers has also just released a new lace yarn made using the same 100% US Merino fibers, and best of all it’s NOT a superwash! For those of you who enjoy lace knitting, you know how hard finding non-superwash yarns can be! This one is particularly nice to work with and ideal for all your heirloom knitting. The stitch definition is beautiful and it takes the usual abuse of my knitting bag (which is not inconsiderable) like a champ without pilling or snapping.
Designing specifically for ombre yarns is a new challenge and one I am enjoying immensely!
Winter is here and that means it’s time for baking cookies, cuddling up someplace warm, and knitting!
2015 has a lot of changes for me, including a move all the way across the country to California. The dogs and I have safely arrived and are working on getting settled in so I can start making more bags and cases to fill the shelves at an all new series of fiber shows. In the mean time, I am getting everything I have in stock listed on the website, have temporarily reopened the Etsy shop, and gotten two new patterns published on Ravelry with three more in the works!
Time Turner is a simple to knit lace cowl that will keep you cozy this winter. Walk in the Woods is my first ever hat pattern! A cute and comfy slouch hat perfect for walking the dogs on chilly mornings.
